A field of charred black wood, and one block in gold. That single point of light is the entire composition the eye finds it immediately and keeps returning to it. Everything else is depth: dozens of hand-cut blocks set at different heights and angles, so the surface stays almost monochrome and still changes completely as the light moves across it.
Charred by hand, not painted. The black is created with a traditional shou sugi ban burn, then brushed back and sealed, which lifts the grain into a texture you can feel. The end-grain rings stay visible through the black.
A single gold block, applied in leaf. Real metal leaf on solid wood, hand-laid on one block. Not a printed highlight and not a sticker.
Depth up to 40 mm. Every block sits at its own height, so the panel throws real shadows rather than a flat pattern.
Solid wood throughout, in a hand-finished black frame. No veneer, no MDF, no glass.
Zero maintenance. Nothing to water, wire or clean beyond an occasional dusting. It hangs from a concealed cleat and sits flush against the wall.
